Look no further to see the pristine beauty of Acadia National Park and surrounding islands than from the deck of an elegantly restored four-masted schooner – the first to work New England waters in over half a century.
Downeast Windjammer Cruise Lines was built to share the glorious maritime history of Maine with visitors from around the world. Two schooners run daily trips through the summer, taking advantage of the beautiful vistas & smooth sailing around Mount Desert Island, while several ferries run year-round to ensure visitors and residents have access to the remote area islands.
In 2013, Downeast Windjammer Cruise Lines was operating under protection, due to inclement weather, a variety of investments, and an untenable financial situation. A sound financial plan was needed to demonstrate viability and clarify the path forward.
The first step in righting the ship was to determine which revenue streams were profitable and which distracted from the business focus. Provided with in-depth analysis, the owner exited a number of real estate holdings and lesser charter boats, focusing his energy where the business was strongest and using revenue to pay down debt. Simultaneously, a robust financial model was used to demonstrate levels of viability and ability to carry debt. Ongoing projections and focus on the path forward led to the successful refinancing of the business with a private lender. Downeast Windjammer Cruises exited protection, and continues to grow and provide a unique experience for visitors to Maine’s historic national park.
